Located by the guesthouse Lago Ritom ![]() With a surface of 1.49 km2 and a volume of 48 million m3, Lake Ritom is the largest alpine lake in Ticino. The first dam was constructed in 1919 and enlarged in 1950 in order to use the water for hydroelectric purposes of the Swiss railways. With the construction of the dam, the San Carl pasture land, the peat bog and the Piora hotel, which was constructed in 1877, were covered by the water. The Cadagno lake was embanked during the years 1944-1947 by elevating the shore with a dam made of earth. This lake measures 720 m in lenght and 350 m in width and reaches a maximum depth of 20 meters. |
